Saga - Irish Warband

Tógann sé am chun caisleáin a thógáil. Ní Róimh a tógadh sa lá.
( It takes time to build castles. Rome was not built in a day.)

And then there were 18-6+12+4=28

I received the miniatures I ordered from Footsore recently and they are as good as they looked on the website. The only slight issue is they are slightly smaller than mins from either Warlord or Gripping Beast. They are certainly more "human" in proportion than any of the other makes in particular the face & hands are not oversized. The guys from Footsore kindly included 4 Fianna with Dane axes for free because they thought they were a little slow processing the order (which I didn't). Pics later -

Girls are done.

And then there was 18 (+12 to come)

Here are a couple of the 8 Female warriors that I plan to use in my warband and a couple more Hearthguard. I quite like the female in the stripes

Hang on - 22?

The first unit of Fianna (Hearthguard) are done. As the Irish have the unique unit, the Curaidh (Hearthguard Champions) I will need to have at least 2 points (8 models) of Hearthguard if I plan to field them. You can have up to 2 Curaidh which are taken from a unit of Hearthguard meaning you will need 2 units, as the Curaidh form independent units of themselves, meaning you will end up with a unit of 6 Hearthguard and 2 units of Curaidh.
Soooo - I purchased a pack of the GB Curaidh and a pack of the Warlord Games "Hail Caesar" Celtic female warriors (8)  - for something different, thus the additional 10. So that almost takes me back to the beginning.

The Fianna

But it gets worse (or better). I ordered on line today some more Irish mins from a relatively new company - Footsore miniatures - who are producing what look to be some fantastic Dark Age miniatures. I bought the Irish command unit and 2 packs of the warriors - so another 12 then - bringing the warband up to at least 34 mins to go.
The pic is from their website - have a look.

One of the best units in an Irish Warband - Doggies! 9 down, 16 to go.

1 down, 24 to go.

My Warlord

Well I finally went out and purchased myself an Irish warband for Saga. The Irish were always my first choice for a warband in Saga but were out of stock at the time and I've never been one for waiting - I'm really crap at it actually. I got them from "The Combat Company" in Mortdale in NSW which fortunately (not how my wife sees it) is 5 minutes from work so it's easy to head down at lunch and pick things up. For anyone who hasn't had a look, these guys are well worth the time. They have the biggest range in Sydney if not the country at great prices.

Anyway we have a start......

Is this what they mean by "The Black Irish"?

  1. Hi there, great stuff! How do the Warlord female warriors match the Footsore Irish for size?

    1. Hi KOIR, I had all but forgotten this Blog, thanks for reminding me. Size wise across Gripping Beast, Footsore and Warlord as a whole are pretty good. Some of the character figures from GB (MacBeth for example) are certainly larger than life. I'll post a couple of pics when blogpost stops being a bitch.
